Shifting Matter
May 14 – 28
Roca Tile Studio NYC Showroom
18 West 21st Street, New York, NY
An exhibition co-curated by Sabrina Merayo Nuñez and Artists Commit organizer Deville Cohen, as part of the NYCxDESIGN Festival
The curators frame this exhibition as a celebration of “a profound love for nature-related materials, embracing them as living collaborators” and an exploration of “the intersection of design, art, and nature, featuring creators who develop objects, works, and biomaterials in dialogue with science and natural processes.” Works in the exhibition make use of reclaimed and organic materials – including algae, glass, mycelium, recycled plastic, roots, and water – providing a ground for reflection on the nuanced interrelationships of matter and artistic practices. The exhibition aims to dwell in the complexities and possibilities of movement toward more sustainable practices. Participating artists include: Kamilla Csegzi, Deville Cohen, Claudia Kaatziza Cortinez, Sabrina Merayo Nuñez, Lolo Ostia, Roxane Revon, Tarah Rhoda, Rootfull, Mika Rottenberg, Sarah Strauss, and Patty Tomanovich.
